Reading of ‘the Light’ Sat 5th June

This online event on 5th June (this Saturday) at 12.15pm includes a Brave New Words reading of my novel ‘the Light’ from yours truly. It’s part of the Cymera Festival for lovers of horror, fantasy and science fiction everywhere.

The reading is a recording from a week or so ago and took place in the Walled Garden in King’s Park in Glasgow. I think we did about 7 or 8 takes in all. Before you leap to any conclusions, the weather was mostly to blame. It was raining – in Glasgow – in May – a shocker, who could have predicted it! A great couple of hours, though (the actual reading is about 4 mins long). Many thanks to production gurus Ann and Sandy for making the experience so enjoyable.

You can buy GoodCopBadCop on digital on Etsy for £3.59. (For those outside the UK, it will be the currency equivalent). We’ll also throw in a copy of the original award-winning comic of the same name, which we’ll send direct to your email address.

GoodCopBadCop is a crime novel with a twist. It is a modern crime take on Jekyll and Hyde where both ‘good cop’ and ‘bad cop’ are the same person. This is not a story about a good man turned bad, or a bad man turned good.  Both good and bad arrived at the same time.

the Light’ explores a world where you wake up and know this is the day you die. How would such a world shape the way we think, our views on each other and society, how we conduct our personal and financial affairs; how we live and how we will die? There are definite parallels with the world we’re living in now, even though it was published in November 2019.

We’ll also throw in a copy of Savant#1 in PDF form, which we’ll send direct to your email address. The comic was originally published by Planet Jimbot and then picked up by Dark Horse, where it appeared in Dark Horse Presents.

Savant introduces Lode from the planet Savant, having gone walkabout around the universe, she chooses to chronicle the lives of the dying.  As a result, she seeks out war zones.  She is not a harbinger of death; but it is death nevertheless that draws her like a moth to a flame. Her travels bring her to Hubris, a planet ripped apart by war.  There, she is recruited by local government forces to help hunt down a war criminal.  It is a journey that will take her to the mouth of madness.  The End of Days itself.

Described by BigComicPage as a ‘single genius concept’, with a ‘beautifully measured writing style’ and ‘stunning visual style’.

Gabriel is a true story set in an alternative Scotland. Written by Jim Alexander (GoodCopBadCop) and drawn by David Hill (Luther: Echoes of the Hammer) & Mick Trimble (Bloodfellas). Graphic novel. A world where God and the Devil – angels and demons – are an everyday reality. The concept of faith is no longer needed. Presently, a demon wreaks terrible and sickening havoc through the streets and tenements of Glasgow, but for Stewart Gabriel, this isn’t the highest priority. He has personal demons to contend with of his own.

As for Amongst the Stars:

Aliens have nightmares! Us! An alien race travels the Universe using their collective consciousness to search for evidence of sentient life. Then they discover the Regressive planet, our planet, and alien minds are trapped in human minds. The aliens try to desperately engineer an escape, while the humans are blissfully unaware of this most subtle of alien invasions. Or are they?

Trippy sci-fi at its trippiest, written by Jim Alexander with art by Mike Perkins (Swamp Thing Future State). Nominated for Best Graphic Novel 2015 by SICBA.
