JIM ALEXANDER

Jim Alexander is the writer of the novels GoodCopBadCop, the sequel Good Cop, and the Light. He was first published in 1992 as writer of Calhab Justice, a post-apocalyptic view of Scotland set in the future that is the Judge Dredd Universe. Originally presented in serial form, Calhab Justice was partially reprinted on the eve of the Scottish Independence referendum in 2013, and was later collected in full by Hachette Partworks in 2016.

He has worked for DC Comics, scripting Batman in 1999 (Gotham Roulette for Batman 80-Page Giant#2) and Birds of Prey in 2006 (Donor) . For Marvel, he scripted Song of Storm, reprinted in Uncanny Origins: Myth and Magic in 2019. He was a regular writer on Spectacular Spider-Man, published by Marvel UK. One of his stories Blast from the Past featuring Spidey and Captain Britain has been reprinted several times (including Marvel Milestones in 2005 and Marvel Europe TP in 2009).

Other books, comics and prose, written by Jim over the years include Raven Chronicles, The Ripper Legacy (both Caliber); Deathwatch, Plague Ship (both Black Library); Oban for Shinsei Shinsei/Star Trek Manga (reprinted as a hardcover in 2019 by Eaglemoss); Samurai Jack Classics Vols. 1&2 (IDW); and Truth or Consequences, a short story appearing in The Phantom Chronicles, published by Moonstone Books.

Two of his comic strips for French publisher Humanoids were adapted for the TV series Metal Hurlant Chronicles. King’s Crown starring Scott Akdins and Michael Jae White was first televised in 2012. Whisky in the Jar starring Michael Biehn and James Marsters followed in 2014. With the latter, Jim was heavily involved in adapting his story onto the small screen. He also worked on the script for the episode The Endomorphe.

Jim also founded small press publisher Planet Jimbot, which is responsible for publishing Wolf Country, Gabriel, and Amongst the Stars. Wolf Country was nominated for the True Believers Comic Awards for Favourite British Comic: Black and White 2014. The award was won by GoodCopBadCop (the comic book which predated the novel) also written by Jim.

He has now entered the world of novels. GoodCopBadCop was published in 2018, a crime novel and modern twist on Jekyll and Hyde. Described as “A dark and graphic psychological page-turner” by the reviewer Píaras Cíonnaoíth.

His second novel the Light was published in 2019. A work of speculative fiction, it asks the question what would you do if you knew today was your last day? Reviewer Steph Warren of Bookshine and Readbows wrote, “This is my second Jim Alexander book (I previously reviewed the–very different–GoodCopBadCop) and he has shown that he is adept at combining such moral exploration with a well-written plot and well-developed characters, ethics with entertainment.”

2021 saw the arrival of Good Cop, the blistering follow-up to GoodCopBadCop. Recent comic book credits include Birds of Prey: Fighters By Trade from DC Comics, Ororo: Before the Storm from Marvel Comics, and the original Graphic Novels Savant and Gabriel. The latter was a Top 5 Amazon book in Cult graphic novels.

His collection of short stories with an AI-theme Rerun to Eden was released in October 2023.
